The world's biggest influence on life and people's action is the media. Teens today are more tech savvy.Equally important, children, especially young teens, are easily influenced by what they see on T.V. Most of what make young teens feel part of society is being able to say they are wearing the latest trends that their favorite celebs are wearing. Teens are very aware of today's fashion trends, and as a result, fashion fads change constantly.
Adolescence conform to the latest trends influenced by the media because teens are conformist. People in society want to fit-in and do not want to feel like they are a social outcast. Although, as a society we encourage and constantly praise others for being themselves. We as a society also judge those who did not ‘fit in’ or look the way we think they should. So in reality, we are actually sending mixed messages to society.
Whenever we see someone who is dressed unique, we say they have no taste, they have poor fashion sense, etc. For example, many magazines have the best and worse dress list. We have many shows that are solely devoted to analyzing the dresses and the suits worn by our favorite actors/actresses at the Grammy’s and other televised events.
As a society, we idolize those in the spotlight. Therefore, if we see them being criticized for wearing a certain style, we will tend to shy away from that style. However, if we see our idols celebrities, being praised or copied for their style by other famous people, or stylist, we as a society will go out and mimic their style, even if it’s ridiculous. Equally important, as a society, we allow starts to dictate what’s in and what’s out. If celebrities start to endorse a brand, we as a society endorses that brand as well.
